Quick Fixes for Tangled Wigs: Expert Tips from Riona Beauty Quick Fixes for Tangled Wigs: Expert Tips from Riona Beauty

Wigs often tangle, no matter the price or fiber. That’s because they don’t get oils from your scalp. Over time, friction and dryness add up. We give you clear steps, safe tools, and products that work—synthetic or human hair. Our goal is to make your wig soft and tangle-free again.

Step 1: Fix frizz early:

Frizz leads to more tangles. Deal with it fast, before it gets worse.

Step 2: Gentle wash first

  • Start by combing tangles out with a wide tooth comb, like the Jon Renau comb.
  • Wet the wig with cool water.
  • Use a wig safe shampoo, don’t rub or scrub. Let your fingers work through it gently.
  • Rinse well, pat dry with a towel, then detangle again.

Step 3: Condition and dry right

  • Spray leave-in conditioner (a few pumps) on the ends, not the base.
  • Let it air dry on a stand. Don’t use a blow dryer, it can mess up the fiber.

Step 4: Daily detangling

Morning or after wearing, use a wide-tooth comb with detangling spray on the bottom half . Do it gently to avoid new tangles.

Step 5: Steam instead of heat

Instead of hot tools, use a steamer to smooth frizz. It’s gentler and safer for synthetic fibers.

Step 6: Trim the ends if frizzy

If the ends stay frizzy, you can trim them. It helps the wig stay smooth and last longer..

Tips from wig wearers

“Use a mix of liquid fabric softener & water… dip a comb into that… comb through… let it air dry.”

“A steamer… plus conditioner… and a comb… took a 1.5 m long wig from tangled to smooth.”

These help, but are not the safest for all wigs. It’s best to stick to wig-safe methods.

Quick reference: what to use, and what to skip
